Holiday Mini Sessions: What to Wear 2012

I often get asked what to wear to a family session and with holiday portraits coming up, I thought what better time to create a handy clothing guide. Below are some fun options that you can possibly wear to your family session. Below are some do’s and DON’TS for your session!

  1. To match or not to match?

You don’t have to match each other, but coordinate! We know you are a family! You are taking pictures together. If everyone wants to wear white shirts and jeans on the beach, walking hand in hand, then I am probably not the girl for you.

  1. New or old?

Your outfits don’t have to be expensive; unless that’s the look you are going for. All of my suggestions are from Old Navy, Gap or J.Crew. Your outfit doesn’t even have to be new!

  1. Details, details, details…

I am very detail-oriented and sometimes it’s hard to let go, but please, don’t worry about every detail of yours or the kids outfits. If you do, you won’t enjoy the session and it will reflect in your photos.

  1. Comfort is key

Wear what is comfortable! Nothing is worse than unhappy, uncomfortable kids in pictures! Don’t buy them stiff, itchy or constraining fabrics.

During our session, you could be sitting, running, rolling down a hill, having a tickle fight, throwing your kids in the air, or laying on the grass…if you can do that in stilettos, ladies, more power to you!

Can’t wait for our session!

Note: Fashion is not my forte so the following clothing guides were borrowed from Diliberto Photo and Design, Paige B Photography, and Lori Hull Photography.
